2009 Recruiting Profile: Tailback Bryce Brown

By , About.com Guide

Name: Bryce Brown
High School: Wichita East High School, Wichita, Kansas
Position: Tailback
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 215 pounds
National Ranking: Brown is ranked as the nation's top prospect by both Rivals.com and Scout.com.

The Lowdown:

How's this for pressure?

Bryce Brown has already drawn comparisons to another famous Wichita native: Barry Sanders. You may have heard of him.

Whether or not Brown turns out to be as good as Sanders—that is, one of the greatest to ever play the game—remains to be seen. But coaches across the country seem smitten by Brown's unique abilities. He's got good size, great speed and remarkable running instincts.

That's why colleges all over the country are chasing after him. Though he committed to Miami in early 2008, Brown is now considering several other schools, including Kansas State and Oregon.

The Numbers:

Brown first caught the eye of college scouts during his sophomore season, when he rushed for more than 2,000 yards and scored 26 touchdowns—a season that earned him EA Sports National Sophomore of the Year honors. He followed that up by rushing for 1,825 yards in his junior season (he was the only junior named a USA Today prep All-American that year) and 1,873 yards in his senior season.

Recruiting Update: March 23:

Brown finally (yes, finally) brought his recruiting saga to an end in mid-March, when he announced he would play his college ball at Tennessee.

During his announcement, Brown described his experience as the nation's No. 1 recruit as a "roller-coaster ride."

“I didn’t expect for it to turn out like this,” he said, “but some things happened that I didn’t expect. We had to come up with an alternative plan so that’s what we did.”
