The Basics:
Name: Percy Harvin
Number: 1
Height: 5-11
Weight: 178
Class: Junior
The Lowdown:
Given the hype that Floridas Percy Harvin enjoyed coming out of high school, it wouldnt be too far-fetched to say the Gator junior has not quite lived up to expectations. In two years with the Gators, Harvin has just under 1,200 total rushing yards and 1,300 receiving yards. Good numbers, yes, but hardly earth-shattering. But heres the thing about Harvin: He really isnt a pure receiver. Hes not a pure tailback, either. In fact, its hard to find a spot for him to play every down. Which is not say hes not a fantastic player, because Harvin is a home-run threat every time he touches the ball.By The Numbers:
Harvins versatility can be seen in his stats: He is the only player in Gator history to pick up 100 yards receiving and 100 yards rushing in a single game. Hes rushed for 1,192 total yards in his career the most by any Florida receiver and added 1,285 receiving yards. He has six touchdowns through the air and nine on the ground. In 2007, he caught 59 passes and 858 yards an average of just under 15 yards per catch and carried the ball 83 times for 764 yards.Career Highlight:
Florida was stunned by Michigan in the 2008 Capital One Bowl, but Harvin certainly couldnt be blamed. He played what may be his best game as a Gator, rushing for 165 yards and totaling more than 200 total yards on the day. He averaged 12.7 yards per carry.2008 Outlook:
Though Harvin will show up on many Heisman watch lists, hes unlikely to make a serious run for the trophy, for two reasons: First, hes only the second-best player on his own offense (behind, of course, quarterback Tim Tebow); second, his lack of a true position wont allow him to post the kind of eye-popping stats that Heisman voters love so much. Even still, Harvin's receiving yards and touchdown totals figure to improve, though it will be interesting to see if he gets fewer rushing attempts now that Florida boasts the services of tailback Emmanuel Moody, a transfer from USC.
