The Basics:
Name: Knowshon Moreno
Number: 24
Height: 5-11
Weight: 207 lbs.
Class: Redshirt sophomore
The Lowdown:
Boasting a rare combination of power, speed and agility, Georgia tailback Knowshon Moreno was the talk of Athens even before he played in a real game. Taking a redshirt during his true freshman season in 2006, Moreno made waves as a scout-team superstar. When he finally took the field in 2007, he more than lived up to the hype, rushing for more than 1,300 yards and establishing himself as one of the most dangerous players in the SEC.
By The Numbers:
In his first season, Moreno carried the ball 248 times for 1,334 yards and 14 touchdowns. He averaged 5.4 yards per carry. He also caught 20 passes for 253 yards, an average of 12.7 yards per catch.
Career Highlight:
In a season of outstanding performances, one stands out among the rest. In Georgia's crucial win over rival Florida, Moreno torched the Gators for 188 yards and three touchdowns. The game made Moreno a Bulldog legend.
2008 Outlook:
It's hard to imagine this kid is only a sophomore, or that Moreno could be even better in 2008 than he was in 2007. But barring injury, Moreno does figure to improve upon his freshman performance this season -- though according to some down in Athens, he may have to share carries with redshirt freshman sensation Caleb King. This much is for certain: Georgia coach Mark Richt is not hurting for backfield talent, and the Bulldog offense figures to score a lot of points.
