2008 Stats: 194 carries, 1,580 yards, 15 touchdowns; 27 catches, 246 yards, 1 touchdown
Why He Can Win It: Because he’ll be one of the two best offensive players in the Pac-10 (the other being Oregon State’s Jacquizz Rogers). Best had an outstanding season in 2008 and nobody seemed to notice. Maybe there’s something to that whole “East Coast bias” theory, after all.
Why He Can’t Win It: Because Cal just can’t seem to get over the hump. Until the Bears can step up and challenge USC, the program—and everyone associated with it—will look second-rate. Even to Heisman voters.
