K-State had their chance.
Oregon had their chance, too.
But with the spotlight shining, and the pressure on, the Wildcats and the Ducks cracked. As a result, their national title dreams are on hold--at least for now.
If we've learned anything over the past couple of weeks (and the past couple of years, for that matter), late-season madness in college football is not the exception. It's the rule. Top-ranked teams do lose in November. They lose in November quite a bit, actually.
Which brings us to Notre Dame, a team that simply needs to beat a weakened USC squad in order to secure a spot in the BCS National Championship Game. Yes, the Irish are close. So very, very close.
The question, of course, is whether they will crack like the Wildcats and Ducks did last week, and like the Alabama Crimson Tide did a couple weeks back. It's a question we'll look at more closely here, in this week's edition of Sunday Morning Observations.
