I'll go on the record with this, folks: Two of the nation's three undefeated teams (not counting Ohio State, of course) will lose before the season is over.
As we all know, the national title battle is (for now) a three-horse race between the Oregon Ducks, the Kansas State Wildcats and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Ducks and Wildcats seem to control their own destiny at this point, and if one of those squads were to slip up, the Fighting Irish are next in line.
But over the next three weeks, each of those squads are going to face some pretty tough tests, and I'm fairly certain that both the Wildcats (who have to still play Texas) and the Irish (who face a daunting trip to Los Angeles) are going to go down. Which means that Alabama, Georgia, Florida or even Florida State, believe it or not, still might have a shot at playing for all the marbles.
Then there's Oregon. Mighty, fast-paced Oregon.
Of all of those undefeated teams, none faces a tougher road to the national title than do the Ducks, and it's a road that begins this week, as they welcome a very good Stanford team to Autzen Stadium.
Can Oregon win and keep their national title hopes survive?
